Chapter 38

7.png

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, It’s not time for my Christmas/Holiday Blog. That comes next month. I’m talking about Presidential Election Day and unlike Christmas, it only comes every four years, so I’m excited. I know everybody does not feel that way. After all, even I get tired of the attack ads and the robo calls. But consider that the privilege to vote in a democratically free election is one of the greatest gifts we can have. I encourage everyone to use this gift and not waste it.

Since the Presidential Election only occurs every four years, this is Gabe’s first one. I know he can’t vote, but that won’t stop him from enjoying the traditions and festivities of Election Season. For example, on Election Night (November 5th), I plan to grab some snacks, order a pizza and a Cheerwine, kick back and watch several hours of election coverage and I would love to have Gabe right by my side. If you are a sports fan, Presidential Election coverage is comparable to the Super Bowl. There is the pregame show where commentators will tell you which team (Red or Blue) they think will win based on exit polls. Then you have the election itself where the votes are actually counted and the commentators are there to announce and analyze each big call. Finally, after all the votes are counted, everyone has an opinion about what happened and why, just like after the Super Bowl.

All this excitement leading up to the election has me thinking, “Who would Gabe vote for?”. There is a term in the South known as a Yellow Dog Democrat, but since Gabe is Brown, I’m not sure that description applies. If Gabe could vote, I’m pretty sure he would go with a blast from the past and throw his support behind Theodore Roosevelt. Why? Because Theodore Roosevelt was the only U.S President in history to own Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. In fact, one of his Chessie, named Sailor Boy, is thought to be a direct descendent of the first Chessie to be bred in Maryland.

If you think about it, a Chessie was the perfect choice for a President like Teddy Roosevelt. He was an avid hunter and conservationist. Chessies at heart, are hunting dogs and they love to be outdoors. I can just imagine Gabe or another Chessie right next to Teddy on his charge up San Jaun Hill or other adventures.

While thinking about who Gabe would vote for is a fun hypothetical question, there is a clear choice for him when it comes to Dog Treats. Unlike political candidates where you like part of their platform, but not the other, there is nothing to dislike about Arin’s Good Girl Dog Treats. They are a delicious and healthy option for your dog. They even have three flavors, enough to satisfy Democrats, Republicans and Independents. Give them a try and I think you will agree, which is something we rarely see in this political climate.

Finally, I want to encourage everyone to get out and vote. Don’t waste this wonderful opportunity and gift you have been given. It does not matter to me who you vote for. That’s a personal choice and it’s not my job to influence you one way or the other. All I ask is that you pull that lever, bubble in that ballot or tap that touchscreen. Then you can sit back and see the results start to roll in. Gabe and I will be watching for sure.

Happy Election Day!
